LATAM Prize Rules
The Bienal de Ilustración awards a prize to a Latin American illustrator/artist in any of its two categories: Physical or Virtual.
The LATAM Prize of the Bienal de Ilustración is aimed at LATAM authors from the following countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela), regardless of where in the world foreigners reside or reside in these countries with a minimum stay of three years, and who are of legal age at the time of registration in the country of residence .
Participation is individual and only one work can be registered in one of the two categories: Physical or Virtual.
They will not be able to participate:
a. Illustrators actively working on Pictoline.
b. First degree relatives of the jury members.
ABOUT THE WORKS
The works must be individual and property of the person registering it. Collaborative, collective works or works that have been commissioned by a third party cannot participate.
The subject of the works is free and they can be unpublished, disclosed or published, as long as they are owned by the author.
Only works made from May 1, 2022 to December 5, 2023, and that have not been registered in the 2022 Bienal de Ilustración or have been awarded a prize in another competition of a similar nature, may participate.
The jury will evaluate two categories: Physical and Virtual.
Physical Category:
They are works that can be captured, printed or reproduced in a two-dimensional format (such as digital printing, screen printing, watercolor, acrylic, etc.).
- For registration, only images sent in JPG or PNG format in RGB that do not exceed 10MB, maximum 3000px on the longest side, may participate.
- The original size of the work that will be exhibited in the exhibition must not exceed 120 centimeters (horizontal or vertical) nor be less than 10 centimeters (horizontal or vertical).
- If you are the recipient of the prize, the author must send the original or printed work, depending on the technique, unframed. All illustration techniques and all printing techniques are valid. The winning artist must cover the shipping costs of the work for exhibition at the 2024 Bienal de Ilustración exhibition to be held in Mexico City.
Virtual Category:
They are works whose nature justifies a non-physical format (such as animated GIFs, interactive, 360o, augmented reality, etc.).
- To participate it is necessary to send the URL where the work is hosted. The author must ensure that the URL is active from the day of registration until December 21, 2023.
- If the work requires a device or operating system other than desktop, the author must specify it in the registration.
- If the author is the recipient of the prize, the author must send the work in high resolution for exhibition at the 2024 Bienal de Ilustración exhibition that will take place in Mexico City.
NOTE: Any work that does not respect the aforementioned specifications will be automatically disqualified.
REGISTRATION AND CLOSING OF CALL
The author may register his work through the site www.bienaldeilustracion.com until December 5, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. (Central Time CST).
FINALISTS
The jury will select 40 finalist LATAM authors and a single winner in either of the two categories: Physical or Virtual. The names of the LATAM authors whose works have been selected by the jury as finalists can be consulted at www.bienaldeilustracion.com on December 21, 2023.
The 40 finalist works of the participants for the LATAM Prize of the 2024 Bienal de Ilustración(Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela), will be part of the printed catalog and the virtual exhibition of the 2024 Bienal de Ilustración. The winning work will be part of the exhibition in Mexico City, the catalog and the virtual exhibition of the 2024 Bienal de Ilustración.
FILE SENDING
If the winner is from the Physics category, the author must send his or her original work from December 22, 2023 to January 8, 2024, to the address that will be provided by email.
If the winner corresponds to the Virtual category, the files of the digital piece will be sent through a download link and technical details will be seen for exhibition with the author.
AWARD
The winner will be announced at the press conference that will take place on February 7, 2024, as well as on the networks and portal of the Bienal de Ilustración.
The jury will award 1 prize to a LATAM author in any of the two categories: Physical or Virtual for $4,000.00 USD (four thousand US dollars), less taxes. The winning piece, if it is from the Physical category, will be part of the Pictoline Collection collection.
If the winning work is from the Virtual category, the winning author must transfer the economic rights of the selected work during a period of two years from the exhibition of the work in Mexico City, to access the prize.
Prizes may be declared void in the event that no work meets the jury's expectations.
The jury's decision is final.
JURY
The jury of the 2024 Bienal de Ilustración is made up of Sebastián Acampante, Smithe, Andy Ristaino, Efe Godoy and Danielle King.
PRINTED CATALOG AND VIRTUAL EXHIBITION
The 40 finalist works, including the winning work of the LATAM Prize of the 2024 Bienal de Ilustración, will be part of the printed catalog and the virtual exhibition of the 2024 Bienal de Ilustración. The catalog will be distributed among publishers, media, creative agencies and illustration and design offices. worldwide as a way to publicize the work of Latin American illustrators.
Any circumstance not foreseen in this call will be resolved by the organizing committee.
