Announcement
The Biennial of Illustration is open for native authors of Latin American countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela), no matter where they reside, or foreign residents with a minimum stay of three years in any of these countries. They must be of legal age (+18) at the time of registration. One can only take part in the Biennal of Illustration individually and only one artwork can be registered.
The following cannot participate:
- Illustrators actively working at Pictoline.
- First degree relatives of the jurors.
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The artwork must be individual and property of the registrant. Collective works, pieces made in collaboration or that have been commissioned by a third party are not allowed to participate.
The theme of the works is free, they can be unpublished, disclosed or published as long as they are owned by the authors themselves.
Only artworks made between March 2020 until April 2022, and that have not been awarded a prize in another contest of a similar nature, may participate.
The jury will evaluate two categories: Physical and Virtual.

Physical Category:
They are artwork that can be captured, printed or reproduced in a two-dimensional format (such as digital printing, screen printing, watercolor, acrylic, etc.)
In order to participate it is necessary to upload the artwork in a .jpg or a .png format, in RGB, and at a resolution of 3000 pixels on its longest side as a maximum and that does not surpass 10 MB.
The original size of the work should not exceed 120 centimeters (not horizontal nor vertical) or measure less tan 20 centimeters (not horizontal nor vertical).
In case of being a finalist, the author must send the original or printed work, depending on the technique used, and without framing. All illustration and printing techniques are valid.

They are artwork whose nature justifies a non-physical format (such as animated GIFs, interactive works, 360º, augmented reality, etc.)
In order to participate it is necessary to send the URL where the work is hosted. The author must ensure that the URL is active until September of 2022.
If the artwork requires any device or operating system other than desktop, the author must specify it in the registry.
In case of being a finalist, the author must send the work in high resolution or the necessary files so that the piece can be hosted on the Biennial’s servers and devices.
NOTE: Illustrations that have only been published on digital platforms but can be printed will be considered in the Physical Category.
Any artwork that does not respect the aforementioned specifications will be automatically disqualified.

REGISTRATION AND CLOSING CALL
The author must register his or her work through the site bienaldeilustracion.com from March 14th to April 30th of 2022 at 11:59 PM (central time CT).
FINALISTS
The names of the authors whose work has been selected by the jury as finalist will be available at bienaldeilustracion.com on June 3rd of 2022.
The finalist’s artwork will be part of the exhibition and catalog of the Third Biennial of Illustration.
AWARDS
The winners will be announced at the opening of the Third Biennial of Illustration in July at the Museo Nacional de Antropología, located in Av. Paseo de la Reforma s/n, Polanco, Bosque de Chapultepec I Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, 11560 Ciudad de México, CDMX.
The jury will award 3 prizes:
- Physical category award: $5,600.00 USD (five thousand six hundred US dollars), minus Mexican taxes. The piece selected by the jury will form part of the Pictoline Collection archive.
- Virtual category award $5,600.00 USD (five thousand six hundred US dollars), minus Mexican taxes.. The piece selected by the jury will form part of the Pictoline Collection archive.
- Revelation award: A revelation prize will be awarded to an author not older than 25 years at the time of registration, in the amount of $1,200.00 USD (one thousand two hundred US dollars), minus Mexican taxes. The piece selected by the jury will form part of the Pictoline Collection archive.
The winning authors must assign the economic rights of the selected work during the Third Biennial of Illustration period in order to access the prizes.
The prizes can be declared void in the event that no artwork meets the expectations of the jury.
The jury’s decision is final.

The jury of the Third Biennial of Illustration is made up of renowned international authors.
EXHIBITION AND CATALOG
The finalists and winning artwork will be part of the exhibition of the Third Biennial of Illustration, which will be held at the Museo Nacional de Antropología, located in Av. Paseo de la Reforma s/n, Polanco, Bosque de Chapultepec I Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, 11560 Ciudad de México, CDMX in July.
The finalists and winning works will also be part of the catalog of the Third Biennial of Illustration. The catalog will be distributed worldwide among publishers, the media, creative agencies and illustration and design firms as a way to publicize the work of Latin American illustrators.
Any circumstance not foreseen in this announcement will be resolved by the organizing committee.
